I am enjoying finding the signs of spring around my area! My block is 2 miles and I try to walk it everyday. I find new shoots poking their heads through the ground each time and am enjoying watching the birds! I have found two nests in mailboxes already! I have yet to check out bluebird box in our back yard because I have to traverse the insta-pond from our most recent rainfall! Camping weather, here we come! Can't wait for the smell of canvas and campfires! Getting ready for a women's retreat this weekend and a youth group retreat April 1!

Grade Level/Discipline: I currently teach 6th grade language arts but have been known to instruct pretty much all areas in our middle school. I am a late bloomer and have only been teaching for 5 years. I read a lot and try to keep up with all the books my students read. They find them much more interesting when we can chat about them and I can guide them to relate their readings to everyday life or to other books they've read. I especially like to find connections between their novels and our social studies curriculum.

Few Facts about myself:

  1. Fact 1: I love to spend time outdoors with my family, friends and dogs.
  2. Fact 2: I can cross one eye!
  3. Fact 3: I have flown in a glider and felt like a bird! I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
  4. Fact 4: I have 3 daughters of whom I am very proud; a son-in-law who is awesome, a wonderful husband of 27 years, three dogs and a cat we rescued. I think we have sucker tattooed somewhere...:)

What I'd like to learn or get out of this course:
I'd like to learn how to use some gizmos and gadgets to make learning a student perceived "boring" subject more fun! I would like to be comfortable with new programs, websites or tools so that I can implement their use in my lessons and activities.

My favorite game(s):
My all time favorite game has to be Zelda. I broke my ankle several years ago and spent some quality time getting familiar with my couch. My sister (younger) brought over her game console and I was hooked! I also played a new game called PacMan my first year of college and was excited when MsPacMan came out a few years later!

Sharon...you seem to have a very fulfilling life, how wonderful! I have two daughters who are 6 and 2. Our family also loves the outdoors, it's just hard to camp with the little one :) I think it's awesome that you love what you do. Good luck! Chris R.
